Red Wolf, LLC, an industry leader in machining and fabrication, recently contacted Airgas for a solution to their welding fume problems. The fume extractor currently in use was not sufficiently eliminating the fumes related to flux cored wire welding.
Airgas Account Manager, Mark McNeill and an Avani Environmental sales representative arranged the delivery and demonstration of one of Avani Environmental’s larger portable units, the SPC-3000, a 1500 cfm model, outfitted with an 8 inch by 14 foot fume and a lighted fume hood.
Welders in the facility noted the difficulty in filter replacement, low filter life, excessive noise level and overall lack of performance with the current unit.
The SPC-3814 combo comes standard with manual reverse pulse jet cleaning system for enhanced performance and longer filter life.
Three in-house welders tested the Avani unit and appreciated the ease of filter replacement (swing open door, top slide motion) on the side of the unit as well as the added benefit of dust drawers for heavy particulate clean out.
In respect to the excessive noise level associated with some fume extractors, one employee was surprised when told that the unit was currently running during the demonstration.
Red Wolf initiated a purchase order for the SPC-3814 within a week of the demonstration and the model referenced above has been in use ever since.
The purchase and start-up occurred in July 2012, and the unit is currently running with the original filters in place.
